The roots of Somnuva started when looking for natural cognitive enhancers, almost 20 years ago.
This research evolved into our patented sleep algorithm developed by our partners at Cambridge Sound Technologies.
This algorithm is what allows the users of Somnuva to achieve natural healthy sleep.
Although culture and society has evolved since the invention of EEG technology, in the 1920s, we know that the healthy sleep cycle has largely remained the same. Typically, sleepers get 5 cycles of REM and Non-REM (N-REM) sleep per night. This is made up of periods of high and low brainwave frequencies that dictate whether you are in a 'Light' or 'Deep' sleep.
For many with sleep issues, these patterns are interrupted by factors such as stress, illness and entertainment. However, it was found as part of the research, that by playing specific tones and pulses at specific frequencies through the night those brainwaves could be encouraged to follow a healthy sleep pattern.
OLD DOG NEW TRICKS
What Somnuva does is replicate a healthy sleep pattern using very specific tones and pulses at specific frequencies throughout the night in a stereo field. This patented algorithm is played beneath familiar sounds which users will learn, very quickly, to tune out completely. Subconsciously, what they are left with, is the Somnuva background hum that re-trains the brain over the following days and weeks to follow what experts refer to as a natural healthy sleep pattern
After years of research and development, the sleep algorithm was complete.
Initial anecdotal results with the proof of concept product were promising, so in order to gather independent results,
Somnuva was tested with a larger cohort at Creative Medical Research (CMR).
The participants had to adhere to specific criteria (e.g. didn't have sleep apnea, children under the age of 4 etc)
and had to have sleep problems / insomnia. From the participants chosen, the group slept on average, 4 hours and 20 mins a night.
After using the sleep algorithm for 3 weeks, the average participants sleep increased by 2 hours 35 mins a night, to nearly 7 hours!!
This is a life changing amount of additional sleep
